So, anyway, I though it'd be cool if I made a sponge cake (and I threw a bit of a tantrum when Becky said she was going to buy one when we were in Greg's) so, when I got home, I asked my mom how to bake a cake.
I was doing pretty well, mixing the sugar and vitalite (woo, lactose intolerance) and I'd thrown the eggs in, when my mother came in and asked me why I'd added the eggs and not the flour.
She told me I had to measure it -6oz- and then seive it gradually into the mixing bowl.
She then asked me why I was using the hand whisk.
(Even though I'd asked her about five minutes earlier if I should switch to that and she said yes.)
Then she decided it should be a chocolate cake.
Then she decided that she'd be a better mixer.
Then she told me to cut out some grease proof paper.
When I did, she laughed and said 'I hope it doesn't rise more than an inch' and smiled in that horrible mocking way.
So, I threw away my first bit of grease proof paper and started cutting out another.
I was about half way done cutting it out when my mom came back into the kitchen and said 'why don't you lay it on the table, use your common!'
Then she cut my grease-proof for me.
She told me to grease the first cake tin, so I did and then, when she got it, she asked 'have you greased this? You didn't do it very well, the paper's not sticking.'
Then she greased the tin properly.
'Where's the first grease-proof?'
'That IS the first grease-proof.'
She looked at me funny, then pulled the roll of grease-proof paper over to her and cut out another one really fast.
'We can put the mix in now.'
She handed me the bowl and a wooden spoon.
'Do you want to do it, or should I?'
I was doing it at first, but I either wasn't doing it fast enough or properly because she did the rest of it.
-
I was going to bake some cookies as well (I like baking cookies) but what's the point? She'll just bake them for me.
I asked her how to make a cake, not to make a cake for me.
*has a major strop at you*
